Answers to the most common questions from students and parents about the Program, the diploma, enrollment, and much more.

The Dual Diploma Program
How does the Dual Diploma work?
Students remain fully enrolled in their home-country school and complete six online courses through Academica International Studies. Of the 24 credits required to earn the U.S. High School Diploma, 18 credits are recognized based on subjects already completed in the national curriculum. The remaining 6 are completed online: 4 required subjects (two English courses, U.S. History, and U.S. Government/Economics) plus 2 electives.
Is the student officially enrolled in the United States?
Yes. You are enrolled with Academica International Studies, a Cognia-accredited organization based in Florida. Mater is part of the Academica Corporation network, one of the largest charter school organizations in the United States.
How many hours per week does the Program require?
Each course requires approximately 3 to 4 hours of study per week. Thanks to the program’s flexible format, students can study in the afternoons, evenings, or on weekends, and receiving continuous guidance and support from U.S. teachers during the weekdays.
Can a student withdraw from the Program?
Yes. Students may withdraw from the AIS Dual Diploma Program at any time, as participation is entirely voluntary. Because re-enrollment is not possible after withdrawal, we encourage families to speak with our Dual Diploma Advisors first. They are always available to discuss any concerns and help find the most appropriate solution before a final decision is made.
The Diploma
What is the difference between the U.S. diploma and a language certificate?
The AIS Dual Diploma™ is an accredited U.S. High School Diploma earned alongside a student’s national high school qualification. Both diplomas remain valid for life. A language certificate, on the other hand, confirms a person’s language proficiency at a given moment and may expire, requiring the level to be verified again in the future.
Does the U.S. Diploma substitute my national high school diploma?
The AIS Dual Diploma™ is designed to complement, not replace, your national secondary-school qualification. When applying to university, you will generally be required to submit the diploma or school-leaving certificate recognized by your country’s education system.
The U.S. High School Diploma serves as an additional academic credential, showcasing your international academic experience, cross-cultural competencies, and ability to succeed in a rigorous dual curriculum. It can strengthen your academic profile and enhance applications to universities around the world.
Admission and Enrollment
How does the admission test work?
The admission test is administered during official AIS testing sessions and consists of multiple-choice questions assessing grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension at the B1 level. No dictionaries or external aids are permitted. Students have 75 minutes to complete the test. A free practice test is available for those who wish to assess their level before taking the official exam.
When can a student begin the Program?
The Program is open from the first year of high school. Depending on the selected plan, it can be completed over 2, 3 or 4 academic years.
How much does it cost to enroll in the Program?
The enrollment fee is a one-time, non-refundable €125 fee, which allows multiple retries of the Admission Test should the student not pass it or decide to begin the Program at a later session. Tuition depends on the chosen study plan: 4 years (€1,350/year), 3 years (€1,600/year) or 2 years (€2,150/year), plus a €75 annual Digital Fee starting from the second year. Comparison with Other Pathways
What is the difference between the Dual Diploma and the International Baccalaureate (IB)?
The AIS Dual Diploma™ Program allows students to pursue two educational pathways simultaneously. To earn the U.S. High School Diploma, students must also complete their national secondary-school qualification (for example, the Matura). The IB (International Baccalaureate) is a separate academic program with its own curriculum and qualification, administered independently. Students who complete the IB program only receive the IB qualification.
Why choose the AIS Dual Diploma™ Program?
The AIS Dual Diploma™ Program offers a unique opportunity to earn a U.S. High School Diploma while continuing their regular studies in their home country. By combining two educational pathways, students gain valuable academic and linguistic skills, as well as develop a global mindset that can prepare them for success at university and beyond.
